Understanding the New England Power Grid
To recognize how your renewable electricity payments make a difference, it is important to understand how our power system works. In New England all of the states share one single grid, or network, of power. To better visualize this, imagine the New England power grid as a giant bathtub. Energy feeds into the grid (or bathtub) from a variety of generating sources throughout the region. Once the energy enters into the grid it is physically impossible to distinguish or deliver the individual electrons created from any given generator to your home or business. Our energy is based on a regional "mix" and the electricity that is actually delivered to your home is determined by which power generators are located closest to you.
